chillpunk:

okay you see everyone seems to think many social justice bloggers think that cis people can’t fight for trans*/non-binary rights, white people can’t fight for racial equality, straight people can’t fight for queer rights, etc etc. they can! we know they can, and we completely encourage it!!!

the problem is that more often than not, those same cis, white, and straight people start to put themselves first. they start to think that they are the most important people in the movement, and begin to take over. they end up thinking that their experiences and opinions are more valuable than those of actual trans*/non-binary, of colour, and queer people

the opinions of the oppressed are the most important, and they always will be. allies can help, of course!! but just because you are privileged doesn’t mean that your opinions are suddenly the most valuable. you help but you are not the most important. you will never be the most important. when you start to speak over the ones with the actual problems, you are causing the issues because you’re making it sound like your privilege makes you better

that is why so many social justice bloggers are rather hesitant to be happy about privileged people(/allies) trying to fight
